Red Ribbon Week Red Ribbon Week October 27- 31, 2008
Dear Parents, Our school is taking an active part in preventing drug abuse. Our goal is to help children become aware of the risks and problems related to drug abuse and help develop skills that will help them become drug resistant. Teaching young children about the risks before they become influenced by peer pressure is the first step towards prevention. We will celebrate National Red Ribbon Week during the week of October 27th -31st. Baltimore County’s Safe and Drug Free School Department has provided ribbons for students and staff. Special drug free messages will be shared over the announcements. As parents, you can partner with us by discussing healthy choices at home. Together we can all celebrate and encourage a drug free lifestyle!! We will have spirit days this year to show our commitment to positive decision- making. Plans for the week of October 27th- 31st include: Monday: Kick- off- special announcements, distribute red ribbons Tuesday: “Drugs and I Don’t Mix”- wear mismatched clothes Wednesday: “Team Up Against Drugs”- wear favorite team jersey Thursday: “I’m Proud To Be Drug Free”- wear something red Friday: “Living Drug-Free Is No Sweat”- wear sweats We hope
that this is an exciting and meaningful week for our students. By encouraging
children to make informed choices and to be assertive, they will have the
ability to determine the course of their own behavior. Please reinforce our
message with your child about what would be the best thing to do in difficult
situations and different ways to say “NO!” to drugs and alcohol. |
