5th Grade Steering Committee
Chair:   Bobbi Sue Stiles
Description:  

This committee organizes a variety of fundraisers and programs in support of the 5th grade and its end-of-year activities.

 
Adopt-A-Family
Chair:   Jamie and Greg Redmer
Description:  

This committee solicits financial and other donations from Gunpowder families and local businesses so that it may offer help and support to families in need during financially challenging times of the year.

 
Audit Committee
Chair:   Tony Grutkowski
Description:  

This committee conducts the annual audit of Gunpowder Elementary PTA's financial records.

 
Banking Day
Chair:   Eileen Roberts
Description:  

This committee coordinates the school's monthly Banking Day, a day when a representative from Baltimore County Savings Bank comes to the school to accept deposits and in other ways educate students about financial responsibility.

 
Box Tops 4 Education
Chair:   Dawn Jones
Description:  

This committee collects, prepares and submits Box Tops 4 Education symbols on an ongoing basis. Each Box Top equates to 10 cents for our PTA and has helped purchase supplies and equipment for the school over the years. Currently, proceeds from the Box Tops 4 Education program benefit the school's Technology Fund.

 
Bulletin Board
Chair:   Leeann Grutkowski
Description:  

This committee keeps the PTA bulletin board in the school's main hallway updated with information about PTA programs and events.

 
Canned Food Drive
Chair:   Amy Thomas
Description:  

This committee organizes the PTA's annual food drives for needy families. The food drives takes place in the fall in anticipation of Thanksgiving and the holiday season and in the spring, just prior to the end of the school year.

 
Environmental Beautification
Chair:   Katherine Heinz
Description:  

The Environmental Beautification Committee organizes and coordinates the PTA's Pitch-in for Progress events, activities intended to beautify the school's grounds.

 
Fall Event
Chair:   Stacey Schwink & Jaime Elwood
Description:  

This committee is responsible for planning a fall harvest type event at the school in early November.

 
Fundraising Committee
Chair:   Chris Kirtz
Description:  

This committee is responsible for overseeing and assisting with the PTA's fundraisers, the majority of which occur in the fall. This year's primary fundraisers are an Innesbrook and KidStuff Book fundraiser in the fall, and a Joe Corbi's pizza sale in the winter.

 
Hospitality Committee
Chair:   Mary Rew
Description:  

This committee coordinates refreshments at PTA and school functions throughout the year including Grandparents' Day, Kindergarten Registration and events of this type.

 
Hot Dog Night
Chair:   Chris Hagan
Description:  

This committee, in conjunction with the PTA Executive Committee, coordinates volunteers and donations for the school's first, and most anticipated family fun event of the fall, Hot Dog Night. This event traditionally takes place on the school grounds in late September.

 
Joe Corbi's Pizza Fundraiser
Chair:   Tammy Dye
Description:  

This committee works in conjunction with the PTA's fundraiser committee and will organize and promote a Joe Corbi's Pizza fundraiser for the PTA this winter.

 
Kids Helping Hopkins
Chair:   Christine Green
Description:  

This committee coordinates and promotes an annual student fundraiser in support of the Johns Hopkins Children's Center.

 
Kindergarten Computer Lab
Chair:   Colleen Onorato
Description:  

This committee provides help and support to kindergarten students on the days that they have computer lab.

 
Kindergarten Registration Coordinator
Chair:   Leah Runaldue
Description:  

This committee assists with Kindergarten Registration one day in March. Volunteers staff information tables, offer school tours, and in other ways help out.

 
Labels for Education
Chair:   Katherine Heinz
Description:  

This committee collects and submits product labels in support of Campbells' Labels for Education program. Funds from Labels for Education benefit the PTA and have purchased a variety of items for the school in the past.

 
Library/Gift Book Program
Chair:   Amanda Rash
Description:  

This committee provides volunteer support in the library and assists with the school's Gift Book Program, a program whereby families can purchase new library books in recognition of students or teachers.

 
Market Day
Chair:   Amy McCready & Christy Tamburello
Description:  

This committee coordinates promotion, handles orders, and oversees distribution of Market Day food orders. Gunpowder's Technology Fund benefits from funds raised by this monthly food order fundraiser.

 
Membership

Description:  

This committee coordinates all aspects of the PTA's annual membership drive.

 
Movie Night
Chair:   Chris Kirtz
Description:  

This committee will select and coordinate a movie night for Gunpowder families at Honeygo Regional Park in March.

 
Newsletter
Chair:   Jaime Elwood
Description:  

The Newsletter Committee edits, designs, copies, and distributes the PTA's bi-monthly newsletter and the Beavers' Log, the PTA's calendar of events.

 
Nominating Committee

Description:  

This committee searches for officers and committee chairs for the following year's PTA. This committee is most active in the Spring.

 
Restaurant Nights
Chair:   Vivian Ziehl
Description:  

This committee chooses, coordinates, and promotes several PTA Restaurant Nights throughout the school year. These are one day, or one night fundraisers whereby the PTA earns a percentage of the day or dinner receipts at the selected restaurants.

 
Scholarship Recipient Selection Committee
Chair:   Stacey Schwink
Description:  

This committee is responsible for promoting the PTA's scholarships to local high schools, evaluating submissions, and awarding the scholarships.

 
Scholastic Book Fair
Chair:   Erin Kahl & Kathryne Snyder
Description:  

This committee organizes and staffs two book fairs each year, one in December at the Holiday Bazaar, and one other at a to be determined date.

 
Skateland
Chair:   Anne Marie Holland & Tasha Rider
Description:  

This committee takes care of organizing and promoting three Skateland parties throughout the year for Gunpowder families. Typically two of the three take place during the winter and spring breaks from school.

 
Sportswear
Chair:   Jennifer Tanner
Description:  

Each fall this committee organizes a sale of Gunpowder Elementary sportswear including t-shirts and sweatshirts with the Gunpowder school name and logo.

 
Spring Dance
Chair:   Shellie Holthaus
Description:  

This committee organizes and promotes a dance for students each spring.

 
Teacher Appreciation
Chair:   Stacia Dashiel
Description:  

This committee organizes a week-long celebration of our teachers each spring that culminates in a luncheon at the end of the week.

 
Volunteer Hours
Chair:   Kathryne Snyder
Description:  

This committee communicates to volunteers about the volunteer process, school and BCPS policies regarding volunteering, keeps track of volunteer hours, and issues volunteer badges each year.

 
Webmaster
Chair:   Chris Hagan
Description:  

This person is responsible for posting flyers to the PTA website, sending out mass e-mails to Gunpowder families, and maintaining the calendar on the PTA website.

 
Winter Carnival
Chair:   Jennifer Tanner & Tammy Dye
Description:  

The PTA will again be offering a Winter Carnival this year. A popular event that debuted in 2009, but was skipped in 2010 as a result of budget and weather matters, this fun, family event will return in February of 2011!
